lives. My children, Jason & Betsy, decided we had to go to Newell
because of the minister there. You! You married Greg and I. You baptized
Ruby. You were there when Jason had surgery for cancer. You brought us
McDonald's at midnight when Greg had his blood clot. You were always
there! I thank the good Lord for you and Jane for always being there.
You were a blessing to us and our children.

Comments: Ken, Congradulations on thirty years in the ministry. I
have several stories that I could tell, but I will leave them
un-touched. One in particular was when you gave me a coffee mug that
read "don't let the turkeys get you down"; the mug is still
reminder of that time and the true friendship you provided to me and my
family. Just to let you know, I completed 30 years and retired on
7-1-03, I decided it was time to leave the turkeys....I hope you stay in
the ministery for many years to come, there is a need for ministers like
Ken Meeks, you have so much that you can pass on the the young ministers
and old alike...God Bless You. Take care of yourself. Wayne Bridgers

Comments: Hey Ken, 30 years ago you were just a kid...a kid who
was a great pastor. I will never forget your coming by our place while
we were still unpacking to welcome us and invite us to come to Bethpage
Presby. You and Paul Christy helped deal with a huge amount of empty
boxes and made a real impact on me and the family. I know Larry Riggs
gave you the tip that there were some Yankees moving in and you were
quick to follow up. Since that time, you became a great friend as well
as a benchmark of what a real pastor should be. Your care and concern
for your flock was always evident and sincere. I know I razzed you for
one thing or another over the years, but that was done in jest and
respect. I thank you for your friendship, good memories and the way you
respond to requests made even 25 years after our first meeting. Your
golf game has remained the same after all this time and that's too bad,
but it is always a fun time when we do get together. Best wishes for
continued success and happiness............Ken L.

knowing that as a staff and as a presbytery we were going to go through
a lot of changes and that those changes were going to be (and still

Comments: Ken --- Congratulations on 30 years of ordained
ministry! It is a joy and privilege for me to be “on the team” with
you during this part of your journey. I am truly thankful that the Lord
called you and Jane to Northeast Georgia Presbytery. It has been fun
getting to know both of you. I am grateful for your friendship, your
support, and your leadership. Your deep faith and love for the Lord is
evident in all that you do and it serves as an inspiration to many of
us. While I have to admit you have kept us busier than we might like at
times, the activity and change has enabled and challenged us to stretch
and dream and think “outside the box.” That’s been difficult at
times, but good for us. And even though we can’t see around the
corners ahead, it’s good to know you are “in this with us.” When
you arrived, you were the newcomer in the midst of a great deal of
history, traditions, and long-term friendships. Through your humor,
gentle spirit, understanding, and patience it was easy to begin working
with you. Thanks for those gifts, and many others, you share with us
through your ministry. As the journey moves forward, I know the Lord
will continue to lead you, as you lead us. And I am confident that
Northeast Georgia Presbytery will continue to be enriched through our
ministry together. There is no doubt in my mind that some exciting (and
challenging) times are ahead! But Ken, I do have one request to make: In
the midst of your busy calendar, please remember to schedule more time
for yourself and for Jane. [As you know, you can’t improve that golf
game if you don’t practice at least a little more often! And anytime
you need a golfing partner, feel free to call Joe Covert. Besides, you
and Joe are both a lot more fun to be around after you’ve played some
golf.] With a grateful heart, Edie

your years at Bethpage with many emotions, as I'm sure you and Jane do,
too. One scene is vivid in memory, however; the Hanging of the Greens
service when you were dedicating the decorations, and as you spoke, a
strange "quacking" clattering noise arose from the sanctuary.
It proceeded around the outside wall as you carried on valiantly in the
face of the disturbance, until finally someone managed to corral Josh
and his pull-toy and you could end semi-gracefully. I don't think anyone
there will forget that particular dedication. Mother and I wish you all

pleasure of being a long-term pastor who followed your long-term
pastorate here at Bethpage. Aside from the scary thought that there is
an entire generation of Presbyterians here who know only the two of us
as their pastor, it has been and continues to be a pleasure to follow
you in this church. Your pastoral ability to facilitate healing and
reconciliation in the life of this church at the time when it was most
needed has now expanded into a strong congregation that is ready for the
growth and change taking place around it. You set the stage for
development, and I have been able to help fashion the growth on that
platform. You have my respect and appreciation, my continued friendship,

Comments: Dear Gavin, It can't be true. You are far too young to
have been ordained for 30 years. I look back nearly a half century at my
own ordination, but it didn't quite take; yours obviously did. What a
fine ministry it has been! And so much work still to be done, but more
and more time, I hope, for stillness and thought and peace. To that end,
here's one of my favorite poems, by the late Jane Kenyon (the namesake
can't hurt): Let Evening Come Let the light of late afternoon shine
through chinks in the barn, moving up the bales as the sun moves down.
Let the cricket take up chafing as a woman takes up her needles and her
yarn. Let evening come. Let dew collect on the hoe abandoned in long
grass. Let the stars appear and the moon disclose her silver horn. Let
the fox go back to its sandy den. Let the wind die down. Let the shed go
black inside. Let evening come. To the bottle in the ditch, to the scoop
in the oats, to air in the lung let evening come. Let it come, as it
will, and don't be afraid. God does not leave us comfortless, so let
evening come. Judith joins me in sending congratulations for work well
done and fondest good wishes for many more years of good labor ahead.

you this very significant milestone! We are deeply grateful that God
allowed our journeys to be joined with yours in the work and service of
the church. Our prayers are that you will continue to be blessed even as
you ARE a blessing to so many others! Congratulations! Well done! God's
